Strings in string theory support a certain oscillation mode, or resonance frequency, whose wavelength exactly matches the length between the two endpoints. The different vibrations of the strings result in different mass and force loads, which are interpreted as elementary particles. Roughly speaking, the shorter the wavelength of the string vibration, the greater the mass of the particles.
