My Americana Project
Photographer Joe Patronite
“My Americana” is a long-term photography essay, inspired by the famous Robert Frank masterpiece “The Americans”, which was photographed the year I was born, 1957.
The genesis came as I crossed our land over the past three decades on assignments for newspapers, magazines and advertising clients, My photographic interest drawn to simple daily happenings, and oddities observed on the streets.
This is a viable and important documentation of the USA in a difficult time.
As a newspaper staff photographer, and picture editor my documentary work, and news coverage earned three nominations for the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Photography.
Assignments have taken me to 40 countries worldwide. Commissions by major magazines (National Geographic Society/ Sports Illustrated), Advertising (Subaru/Hyundai/Audi) and corporate entities (American Airlines) have published photography in their editorial projects and campaigns worldwide.
