Koringami - Nanakusa (Autumn Grasses)
As part of my KorinGami project, this image gets its inspiration from the works of the great XVIIth century Japanese artist Ogata Korin who so well expressed the opulent simplicity of Japanese aesthetics.
In my project, I try to get closer to the landscapes in his mind by recreating some of his compositions by painstakingly folding simple packing paper following the Japanese art of Origami.
At the end of the creation period, 3-4 months usually per piece, the sculpture is lit and photographed against a hand-gilded Japanese washi paper background to recall the Japanese love for shadows.
