The Rohingya, one of the 135 ethnic minorities of Myanmar, began to flee from Rakhine, the region where they lived and to take refuge here since 1992 and it is estimated that today around 1,600,000 refugees live in the camp. The camp was built hut after hut in a hilly area that was previously a lush virgin forest. Today it is a huge refugee village that stretches for tens of kilometers without interruption. The Rohingya have been welcomed in Bangladesh for humanitarian reasons, in consideration of the enormous cultural similarities between them and the Bangladeshi.
