A trullo is a traditional Apulian dry stone hut with a conical roof. Their style of construction is specific to the Valle d'Itria, in the Murge area of the Italian region of Puglia. Trulli were generally built as temporary camp shelters and warehouses or as permanent homes by small owners or farm laborers. In the municipality of Alberobello, in the province of Bari, entire districts contain dense concentrations of trulli. The golden age of the trulli was the nineteenth century, especially its last decades, marked by the development of viticulture.
