The copper statue, situated in New York City, was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States. It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. Dedicated on October 28,1886, it became an icon of freedom and of the United States, seen as a symbol of welcome to immigrants arriving by sea. The image is an attempt to capture the majesty of ‘The Lady’ and how it is closely associated with the ‘America Dream’. Though you see foreboding clouds in the background, a gentle light from the sun seems to be slowly enveloping Her, a harbinger of good times to come.
