Confessions of A Mask

Inspired by the traditional Japanese meanings of colors, I wanted to create this bichromatic interpretation of beauty, portraying Cassandra Marloye. Blue, largely because of the vast stretches of blue water that surround the Japanese islands. Blue is also considered a feminine color and in that sense associated with purity and cleanliness. Red is representing strong emotions rather than ideas. As the color of the sun in Japanese culture and on the Japanese flag, red is the color of energy, vitality, heat, and power. Red also represents love and intimacy, and brides will wear red dresses.

Growing up with a film director as dad, camera's, images, films, were just part of my daily life and being exposed to various forms of image processing during my childhood helped me to develop my visual sense early on. At university I graduated in archaeology and in addition I studied cultural and social anthropology. Through my photographic work I found a way to express my passion for people and culture, in portraits and street photography.
