A single road runs through the Zhangye National Geo Park, shuttling visitors between five viewing platforms and preventing them from marring the spectacular rainbow rocks. At times, the road can be glimpsed in part from the viewing platforms. We had been traveling China’s Silk Road through Gansu’s Hexi Corridor when we stopped at the Geo Park. It was raining but still we entered. The rain moved on to darken the sky in nice contrast against the wet rocks—glistening colorfully as the late afternoon sun emerged. I spied a sliver of road from the platform and waited for a vehicle.
