Fishing in Senegal is a key economic pillar. China and the EU have signed bilateral agreements to access Senegal's fishing grounds with modern trawling fleet, more technologically advanced than the Senegalese traditional pirogues. Senegalese fish reserves are beginning to be depleted. Locals go to the port at dusk to try to buy some of the day's scarce catch or to try to get the fish that falls on the floor during the unloading from the pirogues. This situation has worsened in the last years, forcing thousands of these men to board in illegal migrants boats in an attempt to enter EU land.
