Hong Kong: The Disappeared Village

The Hong Kong government converted several rural areas into residential and commercial land. Ma Shi Po Village is one of the demolished villages. The average age of people in the village is over 60s. They all make a living from agriculture. Some villagers were dissatisfied with the compensation and were unwilling to hand over their place, but government officials ignored them. Some villagers’ houses have been evacuated by government officials in raids. For example, breaking their doors and windows with hardware. Finally, the house and garden were razed to the ground with a machine.
