The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma has occasionally twitched, convulsed, and rumbled, but no lava has emerged since 1971. That changed on september 19 at 3:12 p.m. local time, rising magma tore open several fissures on its western flanks, and an extravagant eruption began. The final balance is 85 days of eruption, 7000 people displaced from their homes, 1345 homes razed by lava flow, hundreds more buried by volcanic ash, more than 12 millions square meters of land destroyed, 74 km of roads destroyed and 370 hectares of crops devastated.

Documentary and portrait freelance photographer based on Canary Islands, Spain.
