The Karo tribe live in lower Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia. I watched this young boy have his face painted by his friend as they sat on the banks of the river. Karo excel in body and face painting using natural white chalk and earth coloured clays to decorate their face and bodies in various simple line and dot designs representing guinea fowl feathers and other animal motifs. Strings of beads are also worn around the neck.
