Santiago Calatrava is one of the champions of Architecture without context. This series follows his buildings; the Opera house in Valencia and the Gare do Oriente in Lisbon. Cut out from a slice of the future, they look less built and more as if they landed at their respective places from deep space. Tall, bulky and with no straight walls, these eccentric buildings subscribe more to one’s imagination than reality. Cutting clean through the sky and ground on which they exist, the spaces created in and around these places has a very stark light quality. Regardless of whether or not these structu
