In this project, I utilize my science background to explore and visualize overpowering forces that compel the natural world to develop life from the amorphous organic matter. To create my images I collaborate with forces of nature. I first sculpt small, biomorphic forms from soft, solidified, transparent organic gels. Then, I subject them to deformations and capture them in cross-polarized light. Because some gels have ability to show material stress in polarized light, the resulting images resemble otherworldly life forms full of light, colors and rich texture. I call them Light Forms.
In my photography, I utilize my science background to explore and visualize overpowering forces that compel the natural world to develop life from the amorphous organic matter. To create my otherworldly images of emerging life I sculpt miniature, life-like forms from soft, solidified, color-tinted organic gels, subject them to deformations and capture in the cross-polarized light. Because some gels have photoelastic properties, or abilities to show material stress in the cross-polarized light, the resulting images glow with light and vivid colors, like life forms made out of light.
