The Dogons, now around 300,000 people, settled along the Bandiagara cliff around the 14th century. Not much has changed since then. The economy is subsistence and is mainly based on livestock and agriculture. The peasants cultivate small fields and vegetable gardens torn from the rock and drought. Spirituality and respect for the most ancient traditions regulate the life of the village. Everything in Dogon daily life retains a link with the mythology of creation of the universe, and a profound knowledge of cosmology, are the main characteristics of this African people.
