A weather beaten sign outside a convenience store in the American Southwest that is commonly seen everywhere and once read - Thank you for shopping here. Your business is appreciated - is ominous, wistful and strangely compelling.

I use the camera to collect color, texture and design from subjects that are often ordinary. Mental labels associated with the objects are discarded to form a digital painting that becomes its own subject. As Monet said, “To see we must forget the name of the thing we are looking at.” I try to steer viewers toward a practiced "way of seeing" that encourages them to appreciate that every visual moment has a structure and beauty that calls out to be experienced directly and fresh. Color form and composition can be elemental tools for the crafting of new, individual and idiosyncratic meaning.
