Black Mirror Diary

Black Mirror Diary is a time-lapse video shot through the porthole of my cabin as we sailed to the end of the Svalbard Archipelago during a climate change event one researcher called "terrifying." Temperatures at the North Pole had leapt above seasonal averages triggering heavy rains in this high arctic polar desert. All the snow was swept from the landscape all the way to 80°N and glaciers continued releasing freshwater ice into the sea. The shimmering black expanse of newly opened ocean has begun to function as a heat sink drawing down the sun's energy which is accelerating polar warming.
