The sentinel Swift parrot (Lathamus discolor) sits in the Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) at Callum Brae Reserve in Symonston Australia. Under threat of extinction this lone bird was noted to act as a sentinel for flock members drinking and bathing in the creek below. The image taken at dusk, shows the condensation of air as it greets the cool evening. The swift parrot is a scarcely observed migratory species that travels from the southern island of Tasmania north to the mainland annually. Footage of this rare encounter was prepared for an international veterinary conference.
